Board / Madeline Wells

Board Member

Madeline Wells Mutti Mutti, Wotjobaluk, Wadi Wadi & Palawa (She/They) has represented Australia with Amnesty International, joining their Global Youth Task Force in 2019 and earlier participating in the United Nations Forum on Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law in Geneva, Switzerland in 2016.

That same year, she was awarded the NAIDOC Tasmanian Aboriginal Young Person of the Year by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. She also volunteered and worked at Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network (Seed Mob) 2014 - 2019 working with different First Nation's people and allies to protect Country and water.
In 2018, she became a Women Deliver Young Leader, and in 2019 she attended and spoke at their global conference held on Turtle Island (Vancouver, B.C).

Madeline currently works as a Programs Officer, helping to deliver the Fullaship Program nationally at Culture is Life, a role she’s held since May 2023. She is also a member of FYA's First Nations Governance Group, since 2022.
Her broader work has included supporting children and young people through education and youth programs, the arts, advocacy, native animal care, research, consultancy with various groups and organisations, and writing (published in Island Magazine), online articles on Pedestrian TV and Common Ground and for projects such as Queer Momentum) Social and emotional wellbeing for Aboriginal people is a key passion of Madeline’s.
She values the importance of amplifying cultural knowledge, healing practices, and collective wellness - recognising deepened connection to culture as a powerful protective factor.

 She is committed to the liberation of all First Nations people and Country globally, and to contributing to the building of safer, stronger communitie - especially for our children. Love is our most sacred and powerful value, held together by the deep connection to Country since always.

Lutruwita Art Orchestra acknowledges that we live and work on stolen land. We use the palawa kani name for Tasmania, which is Lutruwita with permission from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. We value and respect the relationships we have and are building on with the palawa community and are committed to following cultural protocols and guidance generously shared with us.
