RESPECT   |  COURAGE   |   ARTISTRY THROUGH DIVERSITY

Who We Are.

We are a group of Tasmanian musicians who love to experiment. Every performance is different — we improvise, listen, and create together to make music that could only come from here.
Our sound blends classical instruments with folk, jazz, world, and experimental influences.
You might hear strings beside drums, voices, flutes, and sounds you’ve never heard before — all coming together in spontaneous, joyful ways.

We call this radical fusion: bringing different cultures, styles, and stories into one evolving Tasmanian sound. Through our music, we honour the deep history of this place — Lutruwita — and collaborate respectfully with Palawa artists and Elders to build something grounded in place, culture, and community.
Come and experience something new — a sound that belongs to Lutruwita Tasmania.

>Our Mission
To represent and grow diversity in Tasmanian music — through creativity, collaboration, and courage.

>Our Vision
To create new musical experiences that bring together the many voices and traditions that shape Lutruwita, using improvisation to find connection and possibility.

>Our Values
Respect – for each other, for Country, for culture.
Courage – to take risks, listen deeply, and experiment.
Artistry through Diversity – our differences make the music.

What We Do.

We make original, genre-bending music that’s improvised, collaborative, and alive.
Every project starts with listening — to each other, to Country, and to community.

From there, we create performances, workshops, and collaborations that celebrate the rich mix of musical traditions in Tasmania.
• We collaborate with artists from other disciplines — dance, visual art, electronic and vocal — to build powerful live experiences.
• We partner with Palawa artists and Elders to honour and reflect the true history of Lutruwita.
• We work democratically, giving every musician a voice in shaping the sound.
• We support growth by creating a safe space where risk, challenge, and experimentation are encouraged.
• We perform, record, and share our work with audiences across Tasmania, showing how improvisation can bring people together.

Our goal is simple: To make music that connects — to place, to culture, and to each other.

Accolades & Reviews.

'The educational resources provided by Lutruwita Art Orchestra, the positive and generous communication of the company, and their spirit of supporting and informing our young people was phenomenal. The Artistic Director and several musicians engaged really meaningfully with our Future Stages cohort (Young Ambassador/Emerging Maker Program for students in grade 10-12), and their openness and generosity of spirit was remarkable. These students have not engaged with a show like this before, and to have access to an Art Orchestra of this standard, and to be shown that creative spaces exist where the person and the individual is valued over the experience, skill set or CV, is a very empowering message for our young people.

Students commented on how empowering and safe the company methods and values were, and left the performance and QnA with huge smiles. I think Lutruwita Art Orchestra can look forward to receiving expressions of interest from plenty of our student cohort. At a personal level, I am grateful for the spark these artists have lit up in the students of Future Stages.

By showcasing an open, collaborative practice, a community of makers, and a diverse, accepting space; that's what our young people need to see, and is a beautiful spirit for them to engage with and aspire to. That's what Lutruwita Art Orchestra has bought to the Future Stages program at Theatre Royal. '
